LocalWhisper Privacy Policy
LocalWhisper is a macOS application that records and transcribes meetings, calls and voice memos on your Mac. It is built so that your audio and text never have to leave your computer.
What the app stores
Recordings, transcripts, summaries, speaker names and settings are stored only on your Mac. The Mac App Store edition keeps them inside the application's sandbox container (~/Library/Containers/dev.localwhisper.app); the direct-download edition keeps them in ~/Library/Application Support/LocalWhisper. You can delete any recording from within the app or by removing that folder.
What we collect
Nothing. LocalWhisper has no user accounts, no analytics, no telemetry and no servers operated by AImpress Ltd that receive your content. We do not receive your recordings, transcripts, contacts or usage data.
Data that may leave your Mac, and only when you ask
- Speech-recognition models are downloaded from Hugging Face when you choose a model. Only the model files are downloaded; no data about you is sent.
- Local AI servers (Ollama, LM Studio) run on your own machine at
127.0.0.1; transcript text sent to them stays on your Mac. - Remote AI providers (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) receive transcript text only if you enter your own API key, and the app asks for your explicit permission before the first request. That provider then processes the text under its own privacy policy.
- Cloud speech-to-text, where you configure it, sends audio to the endpoint you chose with your own API key.
- Exports to Notion, Obsidian or Apple Reminders happen only when you trigger them.
- Direct-download edition only: the licence key you enter is verified with our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, and the app checks
updates.ai-impress.comfor new versions. Neither request carries recordings or transcripts.
Permissions
The app requests Microphone access to record you, Screen & System Audio Recording to capture the audio of calls (no video frames are kept), and Calendar or Reminders access only for the features you use.
Purchases
In the Mac App Store edition, LocalWhisper Pro is sold through the App Store; payment and receipts are handled by Apple and we never see your payment details. In the direct-download edition, purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy under its own privacy policy.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you from the app, there is nothing for us to access, correct or erase on your behalf; everything is under your control on your Mac. Questions: [email protected].
